John Baldessari: wrong
John Baldessari is a famous contemporary artist. He is well
known for his very unique work, he uses photography in some of his pictures. This video is a good way to understand what he does and also to know more about him. Mr Nicholls showed us one particular image by the artist entitled 'Wrong'. We were asked to look carefully at the image and suggest why we thought it was given the title 'Wrong'. We were asked to write on a Post It note why we felt the picture might have been given the title 'Wrong'. We were then asked to think about the hidden 'rules' of photography and what might make a photograph wrong. We used the Hipstamatic app on the iPod Touches to take as many pictures as we could that deliberately broke as many of these 'rules' as possible. My pictures: |
The things that are wrong with this picture: - It's boring art - It's pointless - It looks like the tree is growing out of the man's head - You can't fully see the trees and the car - It's badly cropped - You can't see the man's expression - It's out of focus |
My evaluation:
the picture on the right is wrong because there is an unfocused finger in the way. the picture is also boring art, if the finger wasn't in the way it would've been wrong anyway because it is boring and has no purpose. |
This image is on the left is wrong because it is out of focus and you can't work out what it is. I put the camera very close to the object so that it goes out of focus and you can't work out what it is. The image below is wrong because the building is in the way. |
