This term we're looking at edges and the different kind of edges which are all around us.We used Ipods and DSLR cameras to take pictures of different kind of edges, we analysed our two best pictures and we made a pinterest wall for edges (as you can see below).

pictures taken with the ipod:
wwwThese are all pictures of edges and i tried to make sure it was quite original. the weather wasn't on my side so there wasn't any sort of strong shadows or contrast.

ebiI need to take more pictures because this doesn't really show my true understanding of edges. I also need to be more careful when i take pictures and make sure they are well focused and portrayed well. Also next time I need to make sure my foot isn't in the picture.

pictures taken on the dslr:
WWWI took many different pictures of different kind of edges. I quite like the picture i took of the pole because there's an edge inside of the edge which makes it a bit different. I also quite like the one of the stair pole because there's a lot of different kinds of edges such as the silhouette of the person going down the stairs and the stair pole itself.

EBIit would've been better if I took the pictures at different angles and made them a bit more interesting because i could've used someone else to represent an edge. Also maybe

Randy Grskovic image analysis
randy grskovic:
my favourite picture:
This picture is my favorite picture because the collage is very simple yet very effective, it's also a very abstract image so you can't exactly work out what is going on. I also really like the colors because they are all green, the only thing which isn't green is pretty much just the mushrooms and the leaves on the floor. I also really like the fact that it hasn't been moved around to much which again, makes it look simple and creative.I also like how he simply turned the squares around to make it look completely different and abstract. |
edges at home:
The reason that I have put these two pictures together is because they both have the same kind of shape and also because they are both quite dark pictures so the contrast is quite dull.
The reason why I have put these 3 pictures together is because they are all home items and also because they have the same kind of lighting so the background colours are quite similar. The objects are all also quite curvy wether it's on the inside or on the outside they are all quite similar shapes.
my photoshop edit:
To do this edit I had to go through quite a long process where I had to do different layers and I will go through it with you. First of all i had to click on the shape sign which is the little star like shapes, I then had to choose the shape I wanted, make sure that you're shape is black on the inside so that you can fill it inside with your picture you then go back to your picture and to put the shape on it you click shift and left curser at the same time,if you don't click shift your shape won't come out equally. After you have done that you have to copy your first layer which is the background layer and to do that make sure you select it and then press cmd+j so that it duplicates itself and it should then come up as layer 1. you will now need to place layer 1 on top of the shape layer and to do that all you have to do is click on the layer and place it on top of it, after that you will have to link layer 1 with the shape layer and to do that you have to press alt and if you move your curser to inbetween the two layers your curser will become two little circles and you then click left, you will then see a little arrow on layer 1 pointing down, your 2 layers are now linked together. To move your picture around in the shape you just have to click the select button on the left column and click on where you put the shape and just move your curser around. Repeat this same process multiple times until you are happy with your edit.

EBI |
I like the fact that the picture itself wasn't about edges but I introduced edges into the picture. I also like the fact that the rectangles are only on the lions body and not the whole picture I also like how the rectangles go different directions halfway through.
|
maybe I could have used an edges picture or something that has to do more with edges rather than something which doesn't really. Also I could have done some other shapes around the picture to make it a little bit more interesting.

My 2nd attempt:
WWW: This was made the same way that I made my other collage (through photoshop) and I really like the fact that there is a pattern in this picture (circle, triangle, circle) I also like the fact that the picture is quite simple so not too complicated like my other picture, it's nice and bold and all of the shapes are filled in with quite different things. EBI: I think that I could have made the shapes smaller so I could have added one more line of triangles which would have made it look more equal. Also some of the things that the shapes are filled in with are quite abstract and dark which could at the same time be good and bad but on this picture I don't think it looks that good. |

my favourite picture:
I think that the photographer wanted to have something a little different with a lot of different and sharp colours. What I like most about this picture is the sharp colours and that the fact that the edges are really sharp. To me there is nothing that I dislike about this picture.I would call this picture "beach of dreams" because of all the different colours and it looks like sand on the beach.I think this picture was taken somewhere in Iceland because iceland's geothermal pool looks like this and it has ice as water and I think that the rocks or sand look quite similar.

evaluation:
I have searched an artist called Diane Sandoval, I found her by simply researching "edges photographer" and her photography really struck me because of all the colours and the fact that they all stand out so much. I have learned that edges don't just have to be objects, they can be part of nature and we see them everyday.I explored the theme "edges", my first thought about this theme was objects because edges are mainly found around furniture but I have learned that actually they come in many different forms, you can take a picture which has absolutely nothing to do with edges and introduce edges into it wether it's by photoshop or cutting it up. To make my pictures I mainly used photoshop simply because i find it much easier to use, I used a few different techniques because as you can see in the first picture I have made I used lines and in the other one I made I used circles and triangles. However I did not cover the whole picture in the first one I simply covered up the part where the lion was and in the other one i tried to create a pattern because I wanted to make it different yet simple.I think that the fact that I introduced edges to one of my pictures worked well because I feel like it really reflects the fact that I understand that the picture i used didn't have to do with edges and that I know how to introduce edges into the picture. The most challenging part for me was to remember how to do the collage because it was quite a long process and there were many different things to do.With my collage I didn't really change anything apart from the fact that I made the lines go in another direction because it would look different from all the others. For my final outcome I was hoping to make something different from the others, not to use a picture based on edges and to simply introduce them, I personally think that it worked really well because I introduced edges well and it looks original. I think I have successfully explored this theme because I can show an understanding of edges and what they are e.g. edges aren't just objects, they are anything around us.If I had more time I would've liked to be able to do what i did on photoshop but manually and with a different picture. The most personal thing about my work is about the original picture, I chose it because I love animals and the trip to Africa I went to was amazing and I wanted to put this into my project.I hope that when someone looks at it they will understand that edges are all around us and that you don't need a picture of an edge you can simply turn it into it.
